Rising alt-pop star d4vd brought his Withered World Tour to Boston’s Roadrunner last night, delivering a set that highlighted both his viral beginnings and his growth into a commanding live performer.
Opening with What Are You Waiting For before diving into the soaring Take Me To The Sun, d4vd wasted no time showing off his energy (literally). Midway through the second song, he surprised the packed crowd with a clean backflip, instantly setting the tone for the night.
For a singer who built his career out of makeshift recordings in his sister’s closet in efforts to avoid copyright strikes on his gaming videos, his live show has blossomed into something lush and immersive. A full band backed him throughout the set, giving songs like Sky, Friend Again, and Leave Her a heavier punch and emotional depth that lifted them beyond their studio versions.
The stage design mirrored his cinematic style, with a glowing, atmospheric backdrop that shifted with the mood of each track and wrapped the venue in his world, and the setlist blended fan favorites like Here With Me and This Is How It Feels with newer cuts such as Always Love and My House Is Not A Home.
In one of the night’s standout moments, d4vd paused the show for a playful competition to see which fans knew his lyrics best. Winners walked away with signed labubus, (a plush keychain that is currently exploding in popularity online) sending the crowd into a frenzy.
It was amazing to see how deeply Boston knew his work. From Worthless to Crashing to the closing notes of Afterlife, the audience matched his passion word-for-word. At Roadrunner, d4vd proved that he has become a music sensation, and it’s clear this is only the beginning.
